Organic Potato Starch: Special Ingredient for Every Chef

Organic Potato Starch is a product you can use for thickening sauces, soups, stews, and even pie fillings. Because of its chemical properties, this thickener won't change the color of the dish or change its taste. Therefore, you'll get a beautiful and delicious meal with the precise texture you want.

Potato starch is made by crushing potatoes and washing the starch out of them. Then, the substance is dried and processed into a fine powder.

Please, do not mistake organic potato starch for potato flour. The flour is made by cooking, dehydrating, and crushing whole potatoes. Therefore, potato starch flour contains carbs and fiber and other essential nutrients from the root vegetable. It also has a distinct potato flavor.

You can use potato flour as a thickener in foods and gluten-free baking. However, note that you won't be able to get a clear color when using it and still have the flour's flavor.

Potato starch, however, is odorless, nearly tasteless, and colorless when used right. It is also what sets it apart from grain starches. Those make the cooked dishes appear a bit opaque instead of translucent.

Uses of Potato Starch in Cooking

Because of its ability to increase the viscosity of liquids, the best use for organic potato starch is as a thickener. You can also use it in vegan and gluten-free baking to give your bread and muffins fluffier texture.

Moreover, you can use this product as a cornstarch substitute. But remember that root starches, potato included, need less time to cook. Therefore, add them at the end of the cooking process. Grain starches, on the other hand, should be added in the beginning.

Also, unlike grain and corn, potato starch shouldn't affect your dish's flavor.
