Organic Whole Indian Bay Leaves is a herb that you must have at home and everywhere you cook. These leaves are from the laurel plant, and they have been used in cooking for millennia. One might even say that bay leaves' distinctive flavor is one of the Mediterranean cuisine's staples.
The flavor of organic bay leaves is difficult to describe. It's reminiscent of oregano and thyme. It also has a very distinctive herbal aroma with some floral notes. The taste of bay laurel leaves is spicy and bitter. Therefore, you should remove them from the cooked dish.
Note that for cooking, it's best to choose organic dried bay leaf over fresh. Fresh leaves are incredibly potent and will overpower any other flavors in cooking dishes within minutes. However, the dried herb will only give a delicious aroma and flavor to your culinary masterpieces.
When using bay leaves for cooking, add them to rich slow-cooking dishes, such as soups and stews. They will enrich those with their aroma and enhance the flavor of other ingredients.
However, you can also use the organic bay leaf in dishes that take less time to cook, like risotto. In this case, they will add a potent herbal note to the flavor of the dish. The herb is also a great addition to marinades, both for meat and fish.
Storing organic dried bay leaves is very easy. It would be best if you kept the herb in an airtight container at all times. Exposing the leaves to air will make the flavor and aroma fade faster. Therefore, if you buy in bulk, seal the leaves into several airtight containers or packets and store them in a dry, cool place. This way, bay leaves should stay excellent and flavorful for up to two years. But you can keep them even longer in the freezer.
